About Talk Science

Effective Disscussions in How Science Works: Talk Science, aims to give science teachers innovative tools and techniques to run contemporary science discussions in the classroom to help give students the confidence to find their own voice and have a say in the way science impacts and shapes their lives.

Talk Science is delivered by the Science Museum’s Learning Unit. The Talk Science team deliver 30 courses to over 400 secondary science teachers per year across the whole of the UK.

Project aims are:

To deliver training to teachers that matches new KS3 and KS4 science curriculum requirements and Curriculum for Excellence to address issues of contemporary science and student understanding of how science works, particularly in developing interest in and enthusiasm for science.

To share Science Museum expertise on managing discussion around contemporary science issues from the very successful application in the Science Museum’s Dana Centre to classroom teaching.

To introduce secondary teachers to the contemporary science offer at the Science Museum.

The project divides into 3 main elements:

  • 1 day teacher professional development courses.
  • this website where teachers can download and upload resources
  • development of products to aid contemporary science discussion in the classroom

The project has been supported by BP and also forms part of their Enterprising Science programme.
